Class of 2023 VCE Academic Achievements

There is no doubt that the Victorian Certificate of Education rewards effort, and the results of the Class of 2023 clearly demonstrate this principle.

From day one, these young men have shown discipline and diligence in the pursuit of excellence but this is only part of their story. The true key to their overall success has been the culture of teamwork, community and fraternity that they have nurtured among themselves in association with their dedicated teachers and supportive parents. These values are at the heart of our educational focus, where curriculum and opportunities are specifically designed to cultivate the unique strengths and potential of each student.

It is, therefore, with a great sense of pride that I present the overall results of the Class of 2023 as the cohort who has achieved the highest median ATAR in the history of the College. In doing so 48% of this class achieved an ATAR in the top 20% in the State.

I am pleased to announce that the College Dux is Joel Savy with an exceptional ATAR of 98.55.

I also wish to congratulate Jacob Barrett who achieved an outstanding ATAR of 98.30.

Stories of success from this year’s VCE results include:

  • A median study score of 32, surpassing the state average
  • A median ATAR of 80, up from 77 in 2022
  • 10% of students achieved a study score over 40
  • 75% of students achieved an ATAR that places them in the top 30% in the state
  • Joshua Ascar, Year 11, achieved a perfect study score of 50 in VET Certificate III Sport and Recreation.

Our VCE Vocational Major (formerly VCAL) students have also excelled. We take pride in the efforts of our high achieving VCE Vocational Major students, Darcy Money and Lachlan Radford. All have secured apprenticeships or employment in 2024, which speaks to the value of Vocational Education as a pathway.

I express my appreciation to the committed staff of Whitefriars College and the supportive parents who have accompanied these students throughout their six-year journey at the College. Their guidance and support have played a crucial role in helping the students reach their full potential.

To the Class of 2023, congratulations. You are true gentle men, and my wish for you is that beyond the College, you find opportunities to embody and apply all that you have learned in the service of your community.
