The stage is set. Today, our Whitefriars 1st XVIII head to Parade College for Round 1 of Division 1 Senior Football. Let’s get around them as they look to knock over the reigning ACC Premiers and Herald Sun Champions.

These stunning autumn days remind us of the many triumphs our boys achieved in Term 1 — including Levi A’s incredible performance at the Australian U17 Athletics Championships in Perth, where he ran a Personal Best of 50.61 seconds in the 400m final. Well done, Levi!

CROSS COUNTRY - REFLECTION BY CAMERON E

On Saturday 3 May, 24 Whitefriars Cross Country runners competed in the Princes Park Road Relays, marking the first event of the 2025 Schools Cross Country (XCR) Season. The event provided a great opportunity for the boys to test their fitness on the fast, flat course that is Princes Park.

We had three strong U16 teams, finishing 8th, 10th, and 12th respectively out of a field of 36. Each runner put in a very solid effort, especially the Year 7s who ran up an age group.

In the U20 division, the senior boys also performed well, with teams placing 7th, 17th, and 18th out of 30. The boys competed very strongly against the other schools, especially to those runners who moved up from their age groups too.

Overall, it was a good day out for all the Whitefriars boys. The event offered great exposure to high-level school competition, especially from schools such as St Bedes and St Bernards, who we compete with through ACC Sports. We’re all looking forward to the next event at the Jells Park Cross Country Relays in a couple of weeks, where we hope to run well yet again. Big thanks to Mr Keller who essentially facilitated the entire operation on the day, as well as entering all the teams so we could have the opportunity to race other schools. Thank you to Ms Brazier who assisted Mr Keller helping out, especially with taking some great photos, and shouting out support to the boys whilst they ran. Thank you also to Old Collegian Hugh Parrott for being there to assist with the boys warming up before their race and offering his knowledge of racing to help all runners on the day.

HONOURING THE ANZACS IN TEMPLESTOWE

We are proud of our students who represented Whitefriars College at the Manningham ANZAC Day Service held in Templestowe.

Our young men played a significant role in this important community event. Student Leaders delivered readings with reverence and strength, our College Choir contributed beautifully to the atmosphere of reflection and Sourav’s moving performance of the National Anthem was a highlight. We were also honoured to have Fr Paul lead the prayer service with warmth and dignity.

Standing alongside veterans, dignitaries and members of the local community, our students demonstrated respect, gratitude and a deep understanding of the ANZAC spirit.

Lest we forget.
