Leadership & Governance

Since its foundation in 1961, Whitefriars College has grown under the guidance and care of the Carmelites. For many years, this growth was led by Carmelite principals and, more recently, supported by a College Board appointed by the Carmelite Provincial Council.

Recognising their diminishing capacity to provide the Canonical and civil oversight needed for the College to continue flourishing, the Carmelites resolved at their 2022 Provincial Chapter to transfer these responsibilities to Mercy Partners, an organisation providing Canonical governance for a range of Catholic ministries. The College Board continues to oversee the daily operations of the College.

A liturgy on 18 April 2024 marked this significant handover, celebrating the rich Carmelite spiritual tradition and the enduring heritage of Whitefriars College. Official documents were signed by Carmelites Fr Bruce Clark (Prior Provincial) and Fr Paul Cahill (Canonical Representative), together with Mr Kieran McCarthy (Deputy Chair of Mercy Partners).
