Our Values and Carmelite Tradition

At Whitefriars College, we guide every student to achieve excellence in learning, relationships and community participation. Rooted in the Carmelite tradition, we invite students to see the goodness of God in themselves, in others and in the world around them.

Nurturing young men with intelligence, inner strength, gentleness and a moral compass.

Our Values

Faith – Through contemplation, community and service.

Gentleness – The intelligent way to express masculinity.

Excellence – Commitment and collaboration in learning and life.

Respect – Positive, inclusive and respectful relationships.

Justice – Advocacy for equity, fairness and environmental care.

The Carmelite Tradition

The Carmelites are a Catholic order founded over 800 years ago on Mount Carmel, inspired by Prophet Elijah and Mary, Mother of Christ. They follow a life of prayer, community and service, bringing these values to all they do.

A community rooted in prayer, service and care for one another.

Carmelites came to Australia in 1881, serving in parishes, education, spirituality and missionary work. Their guiding spirit—the Carmelite Charism—shapes our College identity:

  • Contemplation – Growing in friendship with God, reflecting on life and nurturing compassion.

  • Community – Building a welcoming, supportive and inclusive environment.

  • Service – Responding generously to the needs of others.

Our Mission

Whitefriars College is a Carmelite community where young men are guided to become thoughtful, compassionate and just individuals. Our values and charism shape lives that contribute to the common good and glorify God.
