Year 9 Science – Propeller driven electric car
Electric vehicles are cars or other vehicles that are propelled by electric motors. Unlike traditional internal combustion engine vehicles that use liquid fuels, electric vehicle motors are powered by electricity. At the end of Term 2 and start of Term 3, year 9 Science investigated the construction of building an electric car. Students collaboratively worked in groups to design, construct, test, evaluate, redesign and race a propelled driven electric car. The resulting car was used to investigate the relationship between electrical energy input and kinetic energy output (energy transformations) and consolidated their understanding of series and parallel circuits as well as voltage and current.
