Year 11 Chemistry Excursion to La Trobe University

At the commencement of term, twenty-three Year 11 Chemistry students participated in an excursion to La Trobe University where they completed hands-on experiments using AAS, HPLC and UV-VIS instruments to determine concentration of water soluble compounds found in natural water sources.

Prof Mark Hulett, Deputy Director of La Trobe Institute for Molecular Science, facilitated an interesting tour for our students of the undergraduate and research laboratories that houses bioinformatics, flow cytometry, microscopy, genomics, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), mass spectrometry, inductively coupled plasma (ICP) equipment, atomic absorption spectrometer (AAS), X-Ray diffractometer, crystallography, and laser research. Our students got to meet a range of scientists and hear about their latest research. We would like to thank Prof Mark Hulett for organising and facilitating this tour.
