Well done swimmers

The ACC Swimming Championships were held on Thursday 27 February at MSAC. Our team, led by co-captains Jack Gurrie and James Key, swam to the best of their ability but were no match for eventual winners, St. Bede’s.

Unfortunately, we lost Jack to injury which really put us on the back foot before the Carnival started as all the senior events had to be reshuffled. Many of our swimmers achieved personal bests (PBs) but could not quite match it with the other schools this year.

The challenge has well and truly been presented to us in the coming years.

In the U/13 age group, Tom White swam 2 PBs and anchored our freestyle relay. James Dorrat-Sims also stepped up to the plate and achieved some encouraging results especially swimming the fly leg of the medley relay. They along with others in this age group will get stronger in future years.

Other age groups led by Harrison Barker, Ryan Dickenson, Harry Rooney, Luke Cormack and Max Shallvey performed very creditably. The nucleus of the side is still there for next year.

I would like to thank the parents for all their support in getting their sons to training throughout the season. If the team did not have this support, it would not exist.

I would also like to thank Mr Kristan Height and Mr Mal Legge for their support to me and the team. They were at training doing a lot of the behind scenes work either picking up students or taking rolls.

Finally, I would like to thank the ladies in the canteen led by Sharon who had breakfast ready for the boys when they got back to school.

Good luck to all the boys that continue to swim for Whitefriars in the future.
