Last Thursday the College gathered at St Patrick’s Cathedral to celebrate the graduation of the Class of 2019. This liturgy marked the final milestone in the boy’s journey as young men of Whitefriars; such a special moment provided the opportunity for parents, friends and staff to acknowledge the graduands and recognise all those who had accompanied them on their faith learning journey.
Joined by Frs. Paul Cahill O.Carm (Prior Provincial) and Michael Gallagher (Class of 2000), Fr. Paul Sireh O.Carm celebrated Mass for the community. In reflecting on the theme of the Gospel for the evening ‘this is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you’ (John 15), Fr. Paul affirmed the graduands for being true ‘gentlemen’ of Whitefriars, and encouraged them to always remember those Carmelite tenets of prayer, community and service as they begin a new chapter.
At the conclusion of the liturgy, each graduand was called forward and presented with a small gift on behalf of the College. I would like to thank our amazing staff/student orchestra and choir for the wonderful selection of sacred music during the Mass, and all those staff who volunteered their time to bring the evening together. Thank you, too, to all the families and staff who were able to join in this special celebration and showed their support of our graduands. Finally, to the graduating Class of 2019: the world ahead is your oyster! On behalf of the Whitefriars community, every blessing for the exciting journey ahead!
