Resource Smart Colleges Awards Finalist

Whitefriars College has been shortlisted for Victoria’s largest sustainability award program for schools. Sustainability Victoria announced the finalists last week for the annual Resource Smart Schools Awards. The award category is Campus Infrastructure and Operations Schools of the Year. The Sustainability and Environment Team are thrilled to be shortlisted and recognised for the ongoing work to reduce the College’s carbon footprint. Improved waste operations include all College composting, soft plastics, co-mingled, battery, electronics, stationary recycling and staff recycled book, shoe and bag stalls.

By improving the College waste infrastructure and operations, this action is in step with Pope Francis’ Laudato Si message to “Care for the Earthâ€, reduce waste cost by nearly $20,000 over 5 years and educate the Whitefriars community as global citizens for a sustainable future. The Campus Infrastructure and Operations College of the Year will be announced on World Environment Day in June.

The Sustainability and Environment Team would like to thank the many staff and students involved in the College waste journey.  See the full list of finalists here
