Mr Jackson’s show and tell
Another piece of history is unearthed: in the days before laptops, a typewriter was a luxury for any student. It ensured legibility and speed when it came to nightly homework. It was also an invaluable companion for composing essays, stories, poems and letters. This was the typewriter I used from the late 1980s when I was a student at Whitefriars. It was a present for my fifteenth birthday. It saw me through VCE and university and still works perfectly. The students in my Year 7 English class relished the opportunity to type their names, with most of them agreeing the typewriter’s keys and hammering action were “pretty cool.” It was the best show-and-tell they had witnessed for some time.
