In the midst lockdown, Joe Mutimer (Class of 2019) fulfilled his life long dream of heading to the US on a basketball scholarship. Joe represented Whitefriars College from 2014-19 and was an integral part of our basketball program including ACC premierships, Australian Championships and twice being named in the ACC team of the year. Joe also represented Nunawading Spectres and Victoria and from these roots spawned the dream to play basketball in the US.
Joe accepted a scholarship at St. Cloud State, a Division 2 College in Minnesota (about 100km NW of Minneapolis). St Cloud plays in the NSIC conference against teams as far away as Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota. Joe travelled to the US in September and after enduring a quarantine period commenced training in early October. The St. Cloud State “Huskies” had a successful season last year and are looking to build upon their recent performances. With team mates from around the world, Joe is a Freshman guard who is living his dream despite the Covid 19 world we live in.
All the Whitefriars College community celebrate with Joe and commend him on achieving a scholarship in the US.
