“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

Ephesians 2:10

Timor-Leste Immersion Program

Whitefriars College immersion program in Timor-Leste is:

  • solidarity with the poor and marginalized
  • an understanding of self that includes the other
  • grounded in ‘a faith that does justice’
  • living simply
  • a radical view of the gospel message of love through action
  • an experience of being a man for and with others.

Immersion for Whitefriars Students

This Timor-Leste Immersion Experience allows for ten students from Whiteriars, to live in the Carmelite communities of Hera and Zumalai. Here, the students assist younger children in the classroom and interact with the locals. Zumalai is no stranger to Whitefriars, as the College has been very supportive through its fundraising and promotion of the town’s development over the past few years.

The opportunity for students to travel to Timor-Leste and stay with the Carmelites in Dili and at the parish of Zumalai, allows them to become immersed in and open to the transformative experience of living in another culture.

Immersion for Whitefriars Staff

The Timor-Leste Immersion Experience offers Whitefriars staff the opportunity to be involved in the adult education of Carmelites who are training for priesthood and religious life. The teaching of essential ministerial skills includes the areas of philosophical thinking and reasoning, English language and information technologies, which is important to the Carmelite student’s formation as they prepare for Religious life and Ordination.
