Over 2.5 million words read during House Reading Challenge!

Book Week 2019

The Shortis Library has hosted a number of activities during Book Week promoting reading and writing, including engaging workshops by visiting author Andrew McDonald, a Manga meetup, quizzes on this year’s theme of ‘Reading is My Secret Power’, and the Read a Million House Reading Challenge celebration.  The CBCA Book of the Year Award Winners 2019 are highlighted and celebrated at this time also.








Read a Million Words House Challenge Celebration 2019

The Read a Million Words House Challenge concluded on 2 August and a celebration was held for all the participants who collectively read 52,505,777 words over a four-month period!  Congratulations to all participants for their individual and house achievements including:

Most Words Read:

  • Overall Combined Students and Staff House award:  Avila 11,898,521 words
  • Overall Students House award: Lisieux 9,911,503 words
  • Year 7 Class with the Most Words Read: 7 Soreth 6,689,218 words
  • Overall Student Most Words Read: Dathen Seneviratne 7 S3
  • Year 7: James Palumbo 7 A6
  • Year 8: Simon D’Costa 8 L4
  • Year 9: Callum White 9 C5
  • Year 10: Lucas D’Costa 10 L6
