On Friday 10 May, Year 7 Avila student, Hayden Rujakin, and his sister, Stephanie, were acknowledged on behalf of ‘Hayden’s Helping Hands’ at the Victorian Young Achievers Awards. Hayden established ‘Hayden’s Helping Hands’ in late 2014 to help people experiencing homelessness and women and families fleeing domestic violence. The charity was established to enable the youth of any age to volunteer. He has since grown the charity and has approximately 20 volunteers and helps in the order of 70-100 people per week.
The purpose of ‘Hayden’s Helping Hands’ is to distribute food and supplies to people experiencing homelessness, provide opportunities for people who are experiencing homelessness to interact, improve access for the homeless to basic human needs such as clothing and promote an awareness of homelessness.
The award is a fantastic achievement and a wonderful recognition of Hayden’s, and his sisters’, initiative, care and concern for others.
