‘Friars Foodies’ assist again!

The faces of the homeless and the marginalised are not always apparent in our affluent suburbs, but they are present, and many come to the All Saints Anglican Church on a Sunday evening for a decent meal, a chance to get their clothes laundered and for some company at the Mitcham Community Meals.

The ‘Friars Foodies’ provided the main meal and dessert on Sunday, with several staff members this time taking part. We chopped and cooked our way through kilos and kilos of chicken and vegetables to make up 60+ serves of Chicken Cacciatore on a bed of rice for the guests at the meal. Dessert was easier as several Year 10 Food Technology students (Joel Vander, Jacob Reginato, Gabe Bajan and Noah Mendez) had given up their time on the previous Friday to make up enough Sticky Date Puddings with Caramel Sauce that the Foodies then only had to ‘heat up and serve’. Needless to say, the puddings were a hit!

Our privileged position with food and home security allows us to be generous with our time and resources for those who are doing it tough and Whitefriars College will continue to help at the Mitcham Community Meals in months to come. If there are any students who are up to the challenge to join us, we would welcome their assistance.
