We are please to advise that the College Board in consultation with the Carmelite Provincial Council has appointed Mr Mark Murphy as Principal of Whitefriars College from the commencement of the 2020 school year. His Grace, Archbishop Comensoli, has ratified this appointment.
The process of discernment, consultation and selection has been lengthy and rigorous. The Board is delighted that Mark has accepted the position. Mark has been involved in Catholic education for 33 years, the past ten as principal of Marcellin College Bulleen.
Mark and his wife Caroline have five children. Three of their sons attended Whitefriars between 2003 and 2014. Mark also attended Whitefriars College graduating in 1982. Mark and his family are parishioners of St Luke’s Parish Wantirna.
Mark has been awarded the Masters of Business Administration (Executive) from Australian Catholic University, Masters of School Leadership and Post Graduate Diploma of Education in Student Wellbeing from the University of Melbourne, a Bachelor of Theology from Melbourne College of Divinity, a Bachelor of Arts from Monash University and a Diploma of Teaching (Primary) from the Institute of Catholic Education.
Mark is President of the Principals Association of Victorian Catholic Secondary Schools and is a member of the Archbishops Charitable Fund Advisory Council.
When asked at interview what he aspires to be known for, Mark said that he hopes that people know him to be a man of faith, with a love of family and a passion for educating young people.
It is evident that Mark will bring a wonderful breadth of knowledge, experience and energy to the position and will ensure that the College continues to provide our students with positive, challenging and rewarding school experiences. We are confident in your support of Mark as he takes up his appointment.
In appointing Mark as Principal from the beginning of 2020, we gratefully acknowledge the leadership of Greg Stewart as Acting Principal in 2019. Greg will resume his role as Deputy Principal in 2020.
