On Thursday 10 October, a number of boys from Years 11 and 12 Chemistry participated in Whitefriars’ annual Titration Stakes. Having completed the unit on titration in their chemistry classes, the boys put their practical skills to the test. Each student was given a solution with an unknown concentration and had to titrate it against an acid with a known concentration. They had to record the amount of acid used for a complete reaction, and obtain results accurate to within 0.1mL. The boys were then required to use their results to calculate the concentration of the unknown solution; the most accurate answer taking home the title for 2019. Anthony Brand won the Titration King title for 2019, 0.001M difference from the runners up Nicholas Beltrami. Congratulations goes out to all who participated.
