ACC Open Chess Championship

On 18 August, the Whitefriars Chess Team went to Simonds College for the ACC Open Chess Tournament. For some of our younger members, this was their first competition, and for others it was their first competition in person, as the last 2 years have been facilitated online.

It was a really tight competition, with as little as 4 points separating first and last at some points in the day. Nevertheless, the Chess team stood strong, coming in 4th place for division 2, a result we are all ecstatic about. It was fantastic to see how many of the students developed their chess tactics and strategies over the day.

The Chess team would like to thank Miss Powling for running and supporting the Chess club and Chess team in the lead-up to the tournament.

We still have a few more tournaments this year which makes for a great opportunity for our Year 7-10 students to continue refining their skills by competing against other schools.

Go Friars!
