2020 English Effective Speaking Competition Winners

On Friday 26 February the winners of the 2020 English Effective Speaking Competition gathered in the library space to celebrate their success along with Mr Murphy, Mr Ashmore and Mr Wight. Students received a certificate of achievement.

Given the turbulence of last year and the required changes to learning through the HLP, these students are to be commended for their dedication and resilience to their English classes, and their ability to produce wonderful speeches and excellent videos that allowed them to speak eloquently on their topics:

Year 7 – ‘Heroes in Film’

Year 8 – ‘The Balloon Debate’

Year 9 – ‘Your Local Hero’

Year 10 – ‘Slam Poetry’

The English Department would like to sincerely thank:

  • Our amazing Year 7-10 English teachers for all of their work with these students, the seen and unseen;
  • Our incredible judges: Mr Russell Melenhorst, Mr Andrew Wight, Mr Paul Charvet-Jackson, Mr James Smith, Ms Corinne Apelbaum, Mr Trent Collins, Mr Mark Ashmore and Mr Mark Murphy for their willingness to view, judge and write up insightful comments on the performances.

A big thank you to all students from Years 7 to 10 for their participation in the competition!

Mr Andrew Wight
