1st Prize in writing competition

Joel Duggan PicCongratulations to Joel Duggan who was awarded first place in the Write4fun short story competition this week. This is a  wonderful and significant achievement as the competition was held nationally and judges received over 12,000 entries. First prize included a  cheque for $500 and one of equal value for Whitefriars College and a Samsung tablet or iPad. We can also look forward to seeing Joel’s story  published in the forthcoming anthology The Write Track.

Joel’s story begins with that old literary cliché “It was a dark and stormy night…” Thankfully (and probably much to the relief of the judges)  Joel manages to explore this topic in an original and witty manner. The story also highlights the importance of taking risks. Sometimes a risk  can pay off and in this instance, it certainly has. Well Done Joel!
